About the event
In this 2-hour session you will make your own custom stoneware charcuterie platter. Linda will guide you through the process, then she will fire and glaze your piece for you to pick up later.
Date, Time: The class consists of a single Sunday afternoon session on August 30th. 2:00-4:00 pm.
Programming Cost: $60/person, including the materials. Start registration by clicking the RSVP link; After you submit a registration, we will send you an invoice for payment. Maximum of 6 participants. (If there is high interest, we will schedule another session.)
Location: In the Gathering Room at “Iowisota”, 2472 IA-26, Lansing, Iowa. Midway between Lansing and New Albin. Entrance to the education space is on the upper level on the back side of the “house”.
What to expect for the event: This class is for both beginners and people with some experience with clay. We will learn/review the characteristics of clay and methods to form a vessel, then you will make your platter/board. We will be working with slabs of approximately 3 pounds of clay. We will decorate our platters with leaves pressed into the clay.
The clay we will be working with is a versatile stoneware clay. All materials will be provided. The type of forming you will use is a modified slab and press mold approach (we will not be working on the wheel). All pots will be bisque fired and then glazed and stoneware fired by Linda. The glazes used are all lead-free functional glazes. The pots will be available for pick-up approximately 2 weeks after the session.
The size of the class is limited to a maximum of 6 students. We will be working at tables in the Gathering Room at Iowisota. If you have questions about the class, feel free to contact Linda at Iowisota@gmail.com or (563)538-6510.
About the Instructor: Linda Haugen will be teaching this class, providing tools and materials, and firing the finished pots. She has been doing pottery as a hobby for over 30 years, and her studio will be a stop on the 2026 NE Iowa Artist’s Studio Tour. Most of her instruction came informally during the four years she was a member of the Adelaide Potter’s Club.
How to sign up and pay: Registration is limited to 6 participants. Click the link for registration and then fill out the registration form. This will hold your space. Linda will then send you an invoice. You can pay online by credit card or paypal, or pay in person by cash or check. We love cash and check, because we don’t like to give any more to the credit card company than we must!
